In order for us to gain and maintain your continued support, General Auctions Ltd operates under a strict code of conduct for our auctions, detailed below in our Privacy Statement. At General Auctions Ltd we are committed to safeguarding the personal data of our members, contacts and anyone who visits our website.


By registering for our auctions with General Auctions Ltd, you consent to the use and disclosure of your personal information as described in this privacy statement. Any breach of this Privacy Policy by a registered buyer may result in termination of usage rights.


This Privacy Policy applies to the information and personal data supplied by the registered bidder concerning themselves as individuals and their business capacity, if applicable. By registering as a bidder through the General Auctions Ltd, each bidder gives his or her express consent to the processing of personal data.


1. Why do I need to supply personal information to participate in the auction?

General Auctions Ltd requires your personal information in order that we can process your bids including processing payment of amounts to us if you are the winning bidder. You can also register with us to tell us which auctions you are interested in. Naturally, you must be a registered customer prior to placing any bids before or potentially during an auction with General Auctions Ltd. You can view all auctions at any time, but you will need to register before you can bid at an auction. We also require personal information to improve the service we provide to you, such as by giving you details of auctions you might be interested in.


2. When and how is personal information collected?

General Auctions Ltd may acquire personal information via different methods. The first being via the registration form that will need to be completed prior to placing a bid at an auction. The second being via the telephone which again will need to be completed prior to placing a bid at an auction.


The information collected in each case is described under section 4 below.


3. What personal information is collected?

The General Auctions Ltd Registration form requires potential bidders at an auction to provide:

a.    their contact details (such as title, full name, full address, e-mail address, telephone/mobile number, vehicle registration number (if parking onsite) and declaration signature);

b.    billing information (if registering via telephone);

c.    if registering interest in future auctions then the following details are collected (full name, email address and telephone/mobile number); in each case, in accordance with this privacy policy.


If the information under 4(a) is not provided then we will be unable to process your bids at an auction or contact you when items of interest to you come up for auction.


As stated above, we will also collect information about the bids you submit for our auctions such as what you are bidding for, how much you bid, quantity of goods you are bidding for, plus payment if you are the winning bidder.


If you send us correspondence we may also collect this and keep it on your account file.


4. Where will my personal information be used?

Personal information such as contact details and billing information is collected in order that we can efficiently process your registration and your bids at auctions.


We also want to make your experience a satisfying and safe one by making it easier and more rewarding for you to use our services. We therefore ask you to provide other personal information such as purchasing preferences and demographic data. Naturally, we want you to come back and visit us regularly, so we use the data you supply to us, and your bidding history at auctions to tailor the content we market to you according to your preferences. We may also use it to advise you when certain items of interest to you come up for bidding at auction. Should you so choose, you can opt-out of receiving communications from us at any time, by emailing or calling us to unsubscribe.


5. Will my personal information be given to anyone else?

Your details may be passed on to third parties in order to comply with any legal or regulatory requirement or in emergencies. In some instances we may need to verify your identity, therefore pass your information to, and obtain information from, organisations involved in the prevention and detection of fraud, money laundering and other crimes. It may also be given, where necessary, for the purpose of processing and collecting any amounts which may become payable by you to us.


General Auctions Ltd uses cookies to keep track of your visits. These cookies are placed in your browser file on your hard drive and help us collect general information about visitor behaviour on our site and to help us develop better functionality within our site. Cookies do not capture or track any personal information and cannot identify individual users. We may also use an outside advertising company to display ads on our site. The most important thing to remember here is to always keep your personal information secret. Never give your details to anyone except for instance stated in section 6. General Auctions Ltd will use technical and organisational measures to safeguard your information such as encrypting the documents containing the personal data, using secure servers, SSL technology therefore the information remains secure.


7. Can I correct or update my personal information?

Once you have registered for auctions with General Auctions Ltd, you may at anytime access, modify, erase, restrict our use, request transfer and object to the use of the data you provided in the registration form by emailing us with the changes required. This includes updating your e-mail address to ensure you are contacted as soon as you have a successful bid on an item or providing an updated contact telephone number should we need to contact you regarding details of your purchases.


General Auctions Ltd will also take reasonable steps to destroy or permanently de-identify personal information if it is no longer required or if you ask us to do so because you no longer intend to use our site or services. However, due to technical and accounting constraints your personal information may not be completely destroyed. General Auctions may also need to retain personal information in order to fulfil legal responsibilities or resolve disputes which may arise.
